Computing
Rational
At Cherry Fold we want our pupils to become masters of technology. Technology is everywhere and will play a pivotal part in our pupils lives. Therefore we want to model and educate our pupils on how to use technology positively, responsibly and safely to develop 'thinkers of the future' through a modern, ambitious and relevant eduction in computing. The curriculum aims to equip young people with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to thrive in the digital world of today and the future, develop an understanding of how to use the ever-changing technology to express themselves, as tools for learning and as a means to drive their generation forward into the future and equip young people with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to thrive in the digital of today and the future. Beyoind teaching computing discreetly, we will give our pupils the opportunity to apply and develop what they have learnt across the wider learning in the curriculum.
Approach
The curriculum can be broken down into three strands with the aims of the curriculum reflecting this and encouraging our children to become creators not consumers.
- Computer Science
- Information Technology
- Digital Literacy
A key part of implementing our computing curriculum was to ensure that the safety of our children is paramount. We take online safety very seriously and we aim to give the children the neccesary skills to keep themselves safe online. Children have a right to enjoy childhood online, to access safe online spaces and to benefit from all opportunities that a connected world can bring them, appropriate to their age and stage. Children build online resilience through the use of 'Project Evolve - Eduaction for a Connected World framework. The framework aims to support and broaden the provision of online safety eduaction, so that it is empowering, builds resilience and effects positive culture change. The objectives promote the development of safe and appropriate long term behaviours, and support educators in shaping the culture within their setting and beyond.
SEND
Children who are identified at working below ARE may have specific needs which contribute to their difficulty in this area. Where needs are specifically related to a Special Eduacational Need or disability, specific and targeted support will be outlined and reviewed through the child's EHCP and/or Pupil Progress Meetings, elements of which may be recommended by external agencies. It is also important to recognise that children identified as having SEND may not always be the least able in Computing and could excel in the subject. Pupil's attainment will be assessed in a subject-specific manner and based on their strengths rather than their barriers.

EYFS
Although computing and technology is not a discrete strand within the EYFS anymore it is still a vital part of children's development. The children are taught about different types of modern technology and their uses, they explore how things work and ask questions to find out more information. The children are exposed to many different types of technology and investigate how they are beneficial in their lives. The children have access to different computer programmes to support their learning and extend their understand of the world. This may include google earth to look at where they live or google maps to look at where their school is. The priority for our EYFS children is to teach them online safety and how to keep themselves safe in an everchanging and fast paced technological world.
