Our first trip...
We have visited a local park called Scott Park. It is named after John Hargreaves Scott who was the mayor of Burnley a long time ago. We explored the season of Autumn.
Our first term
We have all really enjoyed our first term in Reception. Our focus this term was settling in and learning the new rules and routines. We have built relationships with staff and made new friends. A highlight of the term has been going to the hall for our dinner and learning how to get changed for PE. We have been focusing on learning about our emotions and read the story 'the Colour Monster.' We have learnt about ourselves and how we are similar and different to others who are in our class. We read the story 'Rat a tat tat' and went around school knocking on doors to see who was behind them. This helped us become familiar with our direct local environment. This term we have also begun our maths learning and we have learn the numbers 1,2,3 and 4. We understand the value of each number and we have learnt to problem solve using these numbers. Our phonics learning has begun and we have learnt the phonemes s,a,t,p,i,n,m,d,g. We have learnt the graphemes for each sound as well as beginning to blend and segment.
Top Tip
Our top tip this week- When walking around count how many cars or trees you can see. Show this number on your fingers if you can.

How our curriculum looks...
We use Development Matters to support our curriculum, this is alongside all statutory elements of the EYFS. We base our provision on common play behaviours and we ensure progression from Nursery to the end of Reception. To support this progression we have a vocabulary and skills progression document. All of these feed into our weekly planning, alongside our ongoing assessment of children's progress, next steps and interests. We use Red Rose Letters and Sounds for our phonics curriculum. We use Red Rose Mastery Maths and NCETM for our mathematics curriculum. Please ask if you would like to see these planning documents.
