Art and Design

Intent

Our bespoke Art curriculum is designed to develop knowledge and skills that are progressive, enabling children to strengthen both critical thinking and problem- solving skills. The process of creating art gives children choices and urges them to make decisions – a crucial skill that translates into all other aspects of life.

Art stimulates both sides of the brain increasing the capacity for memory, attention and concentration. It introduces children to new vocabulary and concepts and generates memories and images which enrich their intellect and imagination. Children also improve and acquire social skills, their self-esteem is promoted and Art gives children a way to express themselves and their ideas. Through Art, children will build a progressive skill set enabling them to be persistent and consistent.

We are very proud to announce that we have achieved a Silver Artsmark award.

What Artsmark said, ''You have a made a positive start to your Artsmark journey. Arts and culture are valued for their own sake and for their wider contribution to wellbeing and developing a sense of community. Taking part in community projects such as ‘Defining our Community,’ Pride of Burnley and the Linking Schools Project have given pupils new opportunities to engage with street art, performance poetry and apply their skills and knowledge of drama in other contexts. The profile of the arts has been raised, the curriculum redesigned and staff encouraged to weave the arts into their lessons such as art linked to the topics of Boudica and the Blitz in history.' 'Your long-term collaborations with the Burnley Youth Theatre and the local Music Service support you in offering a range of arts and cultural experiences. In addition, a number of after school arts-based clubs such as art, drama, dance, recorder and singing are also offered.'

We are very excited to continue building on this success for many years to come!
